Accessibility statement

Helen Ltd aims to guarantee the accessibility of its websites in accordance with the Act on the Provision of Digital Services 306/2019 (in Finnish). This accessibility statement applies to the content of the Helen.fi website that is available without logging in. The services for logged-in users (Oma Helen and Yritys Helen) are described separately.

State of accessibility

Helen’s websites meet the requirements for level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 in part. Non-compliance with the requirements and exceptions to be applied to the requirements are stated below.

The accessibility of the service was specifically tested by an accessibility specialist in early 2023.

Non-accessible content according to the WCAG 2.1 A/AA criteria

The content stated below is not accessible for the following reasons:

  • Some of the visual elements do not have appropriate text alternatives (WCAG 1.1.1)
  • Some of the visual elements are not scaled neatly when only the text is enlarged by 200%. (WCAG 1.4.4)
  • Some of the interactive elements on the website, such as buttons, links and menu buttons, are not correctly programmatically marked. For this reason, screen reader users do not receive sufficient information about the purpose of the element in order to use it and the keyboard cannot always be used to access the element. (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2, 2.1.1)
  • There are shortcomings in the use of title levels, especially related to jumping over the title levels (WCAG 1.3.1)
  • Not all areas of the page are programatically marked (WCAG 1.3.1)
  • The active elements are visually highlighted, but not all are programmatically marked. (WCAG 1.3.1)
  • It is not possible to operate individual elements using the keyboard alone. (WCAG 2.1.1)
  • Error messages appearing under the field are not programatically linked to the incorrect fields, making them difficult to detect with a screen reader. (WCAG 3.3.1, 4.1.3)

We are continuously developing our services in terms of accessibility, and we also develop our websites based on the feedback we receive.
